MAP – MEDICARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The Medicare Assistance Program is comprised of two divisions: SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Counseling Program) and SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol).

SHIP

Counseling Citizens with Their Insurance Needs

The State Health Insurance Counseling Program (SHIP) is a non-profit organization helping to inform the public about Medicare and other senior health insurance issues. This division provides accurate and objective counseling, assistance, and advocacy relating to;

  • Medicare
  • Medicaid
  • Medicare supplements
  • Medicare Advantage
  • Long-term care

and other related health coverage plans for Medicare beneficiaries, their representatives, or persons soon to be eligible for Medicare. Call our Senior Help Line at 1-800-763-2828 for assistance. You may also call the KEDDO office at 1-800-211-2116 to speak with a local counselor.

SMP

Reducing Medicare/Medicaid Fraud, Abuse and Waste by Increasing Public Awareness Through Community Education

The SMP Medicare/Medicaid Fraud, Abuse and Waste Reduction Program recruits and trains retired professionals and others as SMP Volunteer Advisors to help senior Oklahomans learn how to protect themselves from health care fraud and monitor what Medicare/ Medicaid has paid on a beneficiary’s behalf. SMP provides community programs and materials outlining how to read a Medicare Summary Notice and how to detect and report discrepancies.
