KEDDO AAA provides caregiver services for those residing in Choctaw, Haskell, Latimer, LeFlore, McCurtain, Pittsburg, & Pushmataha counties for seniors who are 60 years of age and over and older relative caregivers who are 55 and older.
Respite
Respite is temporary relief for caregivers of any age who care for someone 60 years of age or older, or older relative caregivers 55 years of age and over, who live with and are raising a child or children who are age 18 years of age and under, or individual with a disability 18-59 years old.
Respite can range from a few hours to a week, depending on the needs and resources of the family. Respite can take place in a variety of settings, such as:
- The family’s home
- The home of a friend or relative
- A church
- A child care center
- adult day center
How does it work?
You may contact KEDDO’s Caregiver Coordinator regarding services and to have an intake form completed. Upon approval for the program, you will receive a series of vouchers for you to use. The vouchers will come with instructions and how they should be used. Payment to the provider may be an hourly, daily or weekly rate. You choose a respite provider, who may be anyone not already living in the home. The provider completes the amount claimed and signs and dates the voucher. The caregiver then completes all remaining information, signs the voucher and submits it to KEDDO AAA for payment. KEDDO AAA will then issue a check to the respite provider.
How can Respite Time be Used?
Caregivers can use respite hours in the manner that best meets personal needs and desires. It can be used to visit family or friends, to run errands, spend an evening at the movies, to take a vacation, to participate in recreational activities or to just catch up on much needed rest.
It is KEDDO AAA’s policy that the project does not discriminate in admissions, access, treatment or employment in its programs or activities on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, age, ancestry, national origin, religion or disability.
Supplemental Services
KEDDO will provide supplemental services on a limited basis to care recipients that are 60 years of age and older being cared for by a caregiver full time, and older relative caregivers of a child who is;
- 17 years of age and younger, or 18 to 59 years of age with a disability (eligible for incontinence supplies)
- 17 and younger: eligible for school clothing and supplies (uniforms, school approved clothing, camp activity supplies and clothing, shoes, and classroom supplies).
Caregiver supplemental services for care recipients 60 and older include incontinent supplies such as;
- Pull-ups and adult diapers
- Incontinent guards (pads)
- Bed protector pads
- Gloves and/or wipes
Support Groups
Caregiving can be stressful. Support Groups are a great way to get support from people experiencing similar circumstances and share ideas. Caregivers can engage and interact with other caregivers, share thoughts, and stay informed about what the agency has to offer through regular interactions.
