The Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer based system for capturing, storing, integrating, manipulating, analyzing and displaying data related to positions on the earth’s surface. Typically, GIS is used for creating maps which may contain several different and distinct layers where each holds data about a particular feature. Each feature is linked to a position on the graphical image of a map.

Utilizing this captured information and data enables KEDDO to generate accurate maps and assist local governments to meet various needs including the recently instituted GASB 34 requirements. Capital Improvement Plans can be completed using this system, thereby helping communities inventory assets and prioritize needs so as to better plan future improvements. KEDDO has current aerial photos, etc which are available for a fee to the public or private sector.

The following maps have been created by the KEDDO GIS staff as a part of a Capital Improvement Plan for one of the City's in KEDDO District. For information about the GIS Department contact Kim Green at kgreen@keddo.org.
